Enter your date, time and place of birth, and this calculator draws your natal chart: where the Sun, Moon and planets stood when you were born, as seen from your birthplace. You get the chart wheel, a table of positions, and short readings for your Sun, Moon and rising signs.
There is no account and no email field. The results also show the UTC offset used for your birth time, and you can correct it by hand if it looks wrong.
How to use the birth chart calculator
- Enter your date of birth.
- Enter your time of birth, from a birth certificate if you can, or mark it as unknown.
- Type the first letters of your birthplace and choose the right town from the list.
- Check the UTC offset shown with your results, and correct it if your birthplace kept a different time that year.
- Read your Sun, Moon and rising signs first, then the table of planets and houses.
What is a birth chart?
A birth chart, or natal chart, is a map of the sky for one moment at one place. Over a year the Sun appears to travel along a path called the ecliptic. Astrology divides that path into twelve 30-degree signs, and the chart records which sign each planet occupied when you were born.
It also records which part of the ecliptic was rising in the east and which part had reached its highest point in the sky. Those two points anchor the twelve houses, and they are why two people born on the same day can have quite different charts.
What you need to enter
Your date of birth, your time of birth and the town or city where you were born. The date fixes the planets. The time and place fix the rising sign and the houses, which change far faster.
The most reliable time is the one on a birth certificate or hospital record. A time a parent remembers is often rounded to the nearest quarter or half hour, which is fine for the planets but can shift the rising sign. For the place, the town is enough. If a small village isn't listed, pick the nearest larger town.
Why birth time and place matter
The sky turns a full circle every day, so a new sign crosses the eastern horizon about every two hours on average, faster or slower depending on the sign and your latitude. Twenty minutes can be enough to change the rising sign or move a planet into the next house.
The place matters in two ways. Its latitude and longitude set which part of the sky was on your horizon. Its time zone, including any daylight saving time that year, is how your local clock time gets converted to UTC, the time scale the astronomy uses.
If you don't know your birth time
Mark the time as unknown and the chart is set for local noon. The Moon moves 12 to 15 degrees a day, so its noon position is never more than about seven or eight degrees from where it was at your actual birth time. The Sun and planets move slowly enough that noon works for the whole day, unless one of them changed sign that day.
Without a time there is no reliable rising sign and no houses, so we leave them out. If your Moon is within a few degrees of either end of a sign, it could belong to the neighboring sign.
How to read your results
Start with the Sun, the Moon and the rising sign (the Ascendant). Roughly, the Sun describes core identity, the Moon emotional needs, and the rising sign how you meet the world. Each has a short reading on the results page.
Then look at the table. Each planet sits in a sign, which colors how it works, and, with a known birth time, in one of twelve houses, which point to areas of life such as home, work or relationships. A ℞ marks a planet that appeared to move backward at the time. Aspects are the angles planets make with each other, such as 90 or 120 degrees. In the wheel they show up as lines across the middle.
Why your chart may differ from other sites
Small differences between calculators are normal. Three causes cover most of them.
Time zone. Historical time zones and daylight saving rules are messy, and records before 1970 are less complete. We show the UTC offset we used so you can check it and enter a different one.
House system. We offer Placidus and Whole Sign. A planet can fall in the 10th house in one and the 11th in the other while keeping its sign.
Node. We use the true lunar node. Sites using the mean node can place it up to about two degrees away, occasionally in a different sign.
Your privacy
No sign-up, no email address, no account. We never send your birth date and time to our servers. The chart is calculated by code running in this page.
To look up your birthplace, the page downloads a small list of towns matching the first letters you type. That request contains no part of your date or time of birth.
Frequently asked questions
Is this birth chart calculator free?
Yes. You can see your full chart without paying, signing up or giving an email address.
Do you store my birth details?
We never send your birth date and time to our servers, so we have no copy of them to store. The calculation runs in your browser. The birthplace search downloads a list of town names from our site, and that request doesn't include your date or time.
What if I don't know my birth time?
Mark the time as unknown. We set the chart for local noon and show your planets and signs, but leave out the rising sign and houses, which depend on the exact time. If your Moon is near the edge of a sign, treat your Moon sign as uncertain.
Why is my rising sign different on another site?
Usually because of the time or the time zone. First check that you entered the same birth time on both sites, then compare the UTC offset we show with the one the other site used. A one-hour difference, often caused by daylight saving time, is enough to change the rising sign.
When should I change the UTC offset?
Only when you have a reason to think it's wrong: for example, your birthplace didn't observe daylight saving time that year, or local records show a different offset. Time zone data for births before 1970 is less reliable, so those are worth a second look.
What is the difference between Placidus and Whole Sign houses?
Placidus divides the sky by time, so houses come out unequal in size and don't line up with the signs. Whole Sign makes the sign on the Ascendant the 1st house, the next sign the 2nd, and so on, so every house is exactly one sign. Both are widely used. Try each and see which reading fits you better.
Which zodiac does this calculator use?
The tropical zodiac, which most Western astrologers use. Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, currently about 24 degrees behind, so in a Vedic chart most of your placements fall one sign earlier.
Can a birth chart predict my future?
We don't use it that way. The readings on this site describe tendencies and themes for you to compare with your own experience. Treat them as prompts for reflection, or simply as entertainment.
Can I save my chart?
Yes, in this browser on this device. A saved chart isn't uploaded anywhere, and we never see it. To use your saved charts on another phone or computer, export them to a file and import that file there. Clearing your browser's site data deletes saved charts, so keep an exported copy if you want a backup.
Sun, Moon and rising signs at a glance
Aries
Sun in Aries
Aries Sun people tend to know themselves through what they start. Your sense of who you are may come from acting first, sorting out details later, and the clean feeling of a fast decision. You are often most yourself when something needs a first step and nobody else is taking it. Long middles are harder. Once the excitement fades, a project can start to feel like someone else's job. Which of your beginnings did you carry all the way through, and what kept you going?
Moon in Aries
With the Moon in Aries, feelings arrive quickly and want somewhere to go. Sitting with a mood for days rarely suits you. Doing something about it, even something small like a brisk walk or a blunt conversation, tends to settle you faster than talking it over. You may need room to be angry without anyone treating it as a crisis. When the heat passes it usually passes completely, which can confuse people who are still holding on to the argument.
Aries rising
Directness is usually the first thing people notice about Aries rising. People often read you as confident before you have said much, partly from the way you walk into a room and partly from your habit of answering before the question is finished. You approach unfamiliar situations by trying something and adjusting as you go, rather than studying them first. From the outside this looks bold. From the inside it may feel more like simple restlessness.
Taurus
Sun in Taurus
A Taurus Sun builds a sense of self slowly and then keeps it. You may know who you are through what you can rely on: routines that work, a few trusted people, things made well enough to last. You can change a great deal, provided nobody rushes you. Others sometimes mistake that steadiness for stubbornness, and sometimes they have a point. The useful sorting job is telling apart the habits that still earn their place from the ones you keep only because they are familiar.
Moon in Taurus
The Moon in Taurus looks for comfort it can touch. Good food, a favorite chair, clean sheets, the same walk at the same hour: physical things often calm you more reliably than reassurance in words. You probably need a feeling to stay still long enough to understand it, so sudden changes of plan can unsettle you more than you let on. When upset, you may go quiet and dig in. A slow, practical task often gets the mood moving again.
Taurus rising
Taurus rising usually gives a calm, unhurried first impression. People may find you easy to be around and hard to read at the same time, since you rarely show a reaction until you have one you trust. You tend to approach a new job or group by watching for a while, learning the ground, and then committing. Quicker people can find your pace frustrating at the start. Later they tend to notice that once you decided, you didn't waver.
Gemini
Sun in Gemini
Curiosity is the engine of a Gemini Sun. You are often at your best mid-conversation, moving between three topics and finding links between them that surprise even you. Variety keeps you sharp, and a single long fixation can feel airless. Some people read this as scattered. More often you know a little about a lot because you never stopped asking. Look at which interests have stayed with you for years underneath the constant new ones; they say a lot about your core.
Moon in Gemini
Emotionally, a Gemini Moon needs to put things into words. Naming a feeling, talking it over with a friend or writing it down is often how you find out what you actually feel. Long stretches of silence can leave you restless instead of rested. You may also keep things light while you process, joking about something that clearly matters. People close to you do well to wait for the second or third version of the story, which is usually closer to the truth.
Gemini rising
With Gemini rising, the first impression is usually quick and talkative. You ask questions, pick up details and shift your tone to suit whoever is in front of you, so different people may describe you quite differently. Faced with something new, you tend to gather information from several directions at once and test a few approaches side by side. In unfamiliar settings this flexibility is an asset, even if colleagues sometimes can't tell which version of your opinion is the final one.
Cancer
Sun in Cancer
A Cancer Sun often finds its identity through belonging: family, close friends, a home, a place that feels like yours. You may be the one who remembers birthdays, keeps old photos and notices when someone in the group has gone quiet. Care is a large part of who you are, and it comes with a strong instinct to protect. Under pressure that protection can harden into a shell. Who looks after you, and how easily do you let them?
Moon in Cancer
The Moon is traditionally at home in Cancer, and the need for emotional safety here is strong and specific. You likely need a private place to retreat to and a few people with whom you don't have to perform. Moods can shift with your surroundings. Memories carry a lot of feeling, so certain places and anniversaries may hit harder than you expect. When hurt, you may withdraw first and talk later. Being looked after in small, concrete ways steadies you.
Cancer rising
Cancer rising often comes across as warm but careful. People may sense your kindness before they feel they know you, because you take the measure of a room before relaxing in it. In a new situation you look for your people and set up a kind of home base first, then branch out. You notice early how others are feeling, which makes you good at calming a tense meeting and slower to say what you want yourself.
Leo
Sun in Leo
Leo Sun identity runs on self-expression. You may feel most alive when making something that carries your own mark, whether a performance, a meal or a well-told story, and when somebody notices. Generosity comes easily, and so does loyalty to people who have been loyal to you. The wish for recognition is real and nothing to be embarrassed about. Trouble usually starts when it goes unmet and you begin pretending it isn't there.
Moon in Leo
A Leo Moon needs warmth and appreciation to feel secure. Being taken for granted can sting more than open criticism. You may feel best when you can show affection in big, visible ways and have it returned with similar enthusiasm. Play matters too: creative outlets, fun and a little drama can be how you work through a feeling. When upset, you may want to be noticed even while saying you want to be left alone. Sincere praise from someone you respect goes a long way.
Leo rising
Leo rising tends to make an entrance, intended or not. People notice how you carry yourself and may assume you are more outgoing than you feel. When a situation is new, you meet it with a show of confidence and a clear sense of how things ought to look, and you step into the lead if nobody else has. Behind the presence there is often real care about whether people like what they see, and a fair amount of effort to make sure they do.
Virgo
Sun in Virgo
A Virgo Sun tends to define itself through usefulness and skill. There is a particular pleasure for you in fixing something that wasn't quite right: a schedule, a sentence, a process that wastes everyone's time. You notice the details others skip and often hold yourself to a stricter standard than you would apply to any friend. Competence matters to you more than applause. Now and then it is worth asking when good enough would genuinely be enough.
Moon in Virgo
The Moon in Virgo finds calm in order. Tidying a drawer, making a list or solving a practical problem for someone can be how you handle feelings that are harder to name. You may need to feel useful in order to feel settled, and you often show care through small favors instead of declarations. With nothing to fix, worry tends to circle. Some feelings don't need solving at all, and simply noticing them can be enough.
Virgo rising
Virgo rising usually reads as composed, observant and a little reserved. People may see you as capable before they see you as warm, partly because you listen closely and say less than you notice. Faced with something unfamiliar, you break it into parts, learn the rules and get one piece right before moving to the next. Early on, that method makes you the reliable one in the room, though it can also make you look more critical than you mean to be.
Libra
Sun in Libra
For a Libra Sun, identity often takes shape in relation to other people. You may understand yourself best through conversation and partnership, and through a sense of fairness that nags at you when it is missing. You usually see two sides of a question, which makes you a good mediator and sometimes a slow decision maker. Beauty matters to you in practical ways, in how a room is arranged or how a message is worded. Your own preferences can get lost in all that weighing.
Moon in Libra
With the Moon in Libra, emotional balance depends heavily on your relationships. An argument left unresolved can sit on you for days, and you may need things to feel fair and pleasant before you can relax. You probably sort out feelings best with another person, talking until the picture evens out. There is a habit of keeping the peace by playing down your own reactions. Good company and pleasant surroundings restore you, and so does saying one honest thing you had been smoothing over.
Libra rising
To a stranger, Libra rising often looks polished and agreeable. People often find you easy to talk to, tactful and attentive to how things look, from your clothes to the tone of a group chat. In new situations you search for common ground and read what others want before showing your hand. You get along with a new group fast. The catch is that people may know your manners well before they know your opinions.
Scorpio
Sun in Scorpio
A Scorpio Sun builds identity out of depth. You may prefer a few close bonds to many casual ones, and one subject studied all the way down to a quick survey of many. Trust is earned slowly here and taken seriously once given. You notice motives, including ones people would rather keep hidden, while keeping much of your own life private. When you change, the change tends to be thorough. What would you show people if you felt completely safe?
Moon in Scorpio
A Scorpio Moon feels things fully. Emotional needs center on trust and honesty: you may need to know exactly where you stand with someone, and half-truths can bother you more than hard news. Hurt is slow to fade, and you might keep feelings private until you are sure someone can handle them with care. That intensity is also a resource. Time alone to sort through what you feel, plus one person who can hear all of it, tends to help.
Scorpio rising
Scorpio rising often gives an impression of intensity or reserve. People may feel observed when they meet you, or sense that you are holding something back, which you probably are until you know them. You approach new situations by watching the dynamics, working out who holds influence and keeping your own plans quiet. Your read on people is usually sharp. To others you may seem harder to approach than you actually are.
Sagittarius
Sun in Sagittarius
A Sagittarius Sun grows by exploring. Sometimes that means travel, but just as often it means a new subject, a big question or a personal philosophy you keep revising. Restlessness sets in when there is no open road ahead and nothing left to learn. Honesty comes naturally, at times bluntly, and rules nobody can explain test your patience. Freedom sits close to the center of who you are, including the freedom to change your mind.
Moon in Sagittarius
A Sagittarius Moon needs space and a sense of possibility to feel at ease. Feeling boxed in, whether by a schedule or by a relationship with no room to roam, can make you restless. You may process emotions by stepping back to see the bigger picture, or by finding something to laugh about. Optimism is a genuine strength here. The trade-off is a habit of moving on before a heavy feeling has been fully felt, so it helps to check in with yourself after the joke.
Sagittarius rising
Sagittarius rising looks open and friendly from the first hello, and usually up for anything. People may find you funny and easy to approach, and a little unpredictable, since you say what you think and change plans when something better turns up. You handle new situations by jumping in and learning on the way. Strangers often relax around you quickly. Details and follow-through may need more deliberate attention than first contact does.
Capricorn
Sun in Capricorn
A Capricorn Sun tends to anchor identity in responsibility and long effort. Projects measured in years suit you: a craft, a role, a reputation built with care. You respect structure and are often the person who knows how things actually get done. Your humor is usually dry and shows up once people know you. Because self-worth can attach itself to achievement, try listing what you value about yourself that has nothing to do with output.
Moon in Capricorn
With the Moon in Capricorn, emotional security comes from feeling capable and in control. You may deal with feelings by getting on with things, keeping private struggles to yourself until they are sorted. Reliability matters to you, in others and in yourself, and taking on responsibility is one way you show love. Vulnerability can feel expensive. Letting one or two people see the unfinished version of you can be more of a relief than you expect.
Capricorn rising
Capricorn rising usually makes a serious, competent first impression. People may assume you are older or more established than you are and hand you responsibility early. Your approach to anything new is cautious and planned: learn the hierarchy, find out what is expected, then deliver. At first the reserve can come across as coolness. Once you know the ground is solid, you often loosen up considerably, and people meet a warmer, funnier side.
Aquarius
Sun in Aquarius
Aquarius Sun identity often rests on independence of mind. Thinking differently from the room, working on ideas that serve a group and questioning how things are usually done can all feel like home ground. Friendship can matter as much as romance, and a cause as much as either. You look at people and systems from a slight distance, which can read as detachment. That distance protects your judgment, and sometimes keeps people further out than you intend.
Moon in Aquarius
Feelings, for an Aquarius Moon, often need thinking about before they can be felt in full. You may want to understand an emotion, put it in context or discuss it almost as an idea, and emotional pressure can make you pull back. Friendship is often where you feel safest, and freedom inside close relationships matters a lot. Others sometimes take your calm for distance. Telling them when something has reached you can close that gap.
Aquarius rising
Aquarius rising is friendly on first meeting, but hard to place. People may notice something unconventional in your style, opinions or humor, and they may observe that you treat a stranger and a boss in much the same way. In new situations you look at the whole system first: how it works and what could work better. In a first meeting you can seem cooler than you feel, mostly because your attention is on the idea in front of you.
Pisces
Sun in Pisces
A Pisces Sun often has a porous sense of self. You may absorb the moods of people around you, pick up on atmospheres quickly and find identity in imagination, art or care for others. The line between your feelings and someone else's can blur, which is a source of real empathy and of occasional overwhelm. Quiet and solitude help you find your outline again. A question to keep handy: which of the feelings you are carrying today started with someone else?
Moon in Pisces
The Moon in Pisces is deeply receptive. You may sense what other people feel before they mention it, and need regular time alone, perhaps near water, with music or with something imaginative, to clear what you have absorbed. Harsh environments wear you down quickly. Compassion is a need as much as a gift: you want to help, and you want to be met with the same gentleness. Saying no, kindly, is part of looking after yourself.
Pisces rising
Pisces rising often gives a soft, gentle or dreamy first impression. People sometimes confide in you within minutes of meeting, because you seem to understand without much explanation. Your way into a new situation is to feel it out and go with the current until a direction makes sense. This adaptability helps when things are uncertain, though others may be left unsure what you actually want, so say it plainly when it counts.
